Experience an Authentic Arthurian Legend!

Yvain and the Lady of the Fountain is an audio drama that hearkens back to the popular American radio plays of the 1940s. Adapted from the French poet Chretien de Troyes’s twelfth century text, Yvain, the Knight of the Lion, it features a fully voiced cast, original score, and sound effects that bring the story to life.

As an avid fan of Arthurian mythology, I was inspired to adapt this work after discovering it in 2023. I had first planned to compose a suite of music that conveyed the story, but later settled on the creation of an audio drama, as I felt a new telling of the story could help it gain greater recognition compared to the more well-known tales from the canon.

In 2025, I had the opportunity to visit the real-world fountain that inspired the myth in Brittany, France—the Fountain of Barenton. Walking through the actual Forest of Broceliande (also known as the Forest of Paimpont) was a surreal and humbling experience, and a memory that I will treasure for the rest of my life.

My hope is to introduce this lovely story to future generations, and that the music and themes contained within this production will be warmly received.

Act I of the play is now available for streaming on all major platforms, including Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Act II is in production and tentatively scheduled for release in December 2025.

An Innovative New Radio Drama

Hi, I’m Jacob E. Simmons, a composer, writer, and creator of Yvain and the Lady of the Fountain, an adaptation of the medieval Arthurian legend designed for audio streaming. This project is truly unique—every element, from the script and orchestral score to directing and producing, has been crafted with care by a single creator, and all character voices in Act I have been performed by the creator and his partner using voice-shaping techniques to create a richly layered and immersive cast. Yvain transports audiences into a vividly imagined world where music and story intertwine. Act I is now available on all major streaming platforms, and work on Act II is underway with a tentative release in December 2025.
